sQuareOne ArtCycle Launch

At sQuareOne we have an amazing office, but no art on the walls! We are excited to launch a bi-monthly rotating exhibition called ArtCycle, where young emerging artists will have the chance to exhibit their works in the sQuareOne space.

The first exhibition will be extra special as we have joined forces with the Pine Street Creative Arts Centre. One artist will be chosen from the smARTarts 2008 Festival to be the first artist to launch the sQuareOne's ArtCycle.

This includes a two month exhibition space in the sQuareOne space in Ultimo and an opening night celebration. This exhibition will run from May - June 2008.

Following on from this, artists are invited to send in application form and attach some pictures of your work for consideration. We're looking for unique works that have a youthful and modern feel that will fit in with the sQuareOne culture. It can be painting, graf art, photography, printmaking, graphic design, sculpture, textile art...it's up to you!

The area you have to work with consists of six window panels, each being 240 cm long by 80 cm high. The arrangement and installation of the works is up to the artist. We encourage you to come and visit the space to see where the work will be displayed, before submitting your pieces.

sQuareOne Magazine Project

An exciting new project is the sQuareOne Magazine, which will showcase the talents of young people in Sydney. The magazine will focus on the positive contribution young people are making to our community. It will profile and explore the community of young creative and social change agents who work in and around sQuareOne, including community workers, social entrepreneurs, filmmakers, musicians, designers, event organisers and more.

The magazine will be developed entirely by participants who will go through a series of workshops to gain a range of media skills, guided by experienced facilitators and trainers. Workshops will focus on Writing, Interviewing & Editing; Photography; Graphic illustration; Layout & Design; Project Management. The end product will be a collaborative publication about young people created by young people.

The program will run from May - July 2008.
Applicants must be 16 to 20 years old, no need for experience (that's what you'll be learning!)
Applications close on 30 April 2008. There are limited places available.
